Education

The North Little Rock School District (NLRSD) has grown to about 30 square miles since 1901 and now has 21 schools with approximately 9,000 students, making it the sixth largest school district in Arkansas.

North Little Rock High School is separated into two campuses: 11th and 12th graders attend North Little Rock High West campus, 9th and 10th graders are housed at North Little Rock East Campus, and the 7th and 8th graders are in three middle schools. All 6th grade students in North Little Rock attend Poplar Street Middle School. The district operates 13 elementary schools, an early childhood center, and two alternative learning centers for secondary students. These schools and their locations are listed on the following pages.

The North Little Rock School District features a broad scope curriculum in order to encourage individual student growth while emphasizing basic skills in reading, communication and computation. In addition to stressing basic learning skills, learning is enhanced through the use of instructional technology beginning in kindergarten and continuing through the 12th grade. More than 1,000 computers, as well as other types of technology, are available to students in the district. The district continues to add new technology to the learning experience as it becomes available.

The North Little Rock School District addresses the needs of all types of students. More than 900 students participate in the North Little Rock School District's program for gifted and talented students. An even greater number of students are involved in the special education program. Through a combination of federal and state grants, the North Little Rock School District has pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk students. The athletic and fine arts programs in the North Little Rock School District are among the best in the state. All employees work together to best meet the many needs of each student.

The community of North Little continues to be involved in the district. Over 60 businesses participate in the Partners in Education, Vital Link, Arkansas Scholars, and Junior Achievement programs, which not only positively impact student achievement but also help prepare the workforce for the community. The Chamber of Commerce realizes the district is preparing future workers and leaders for our community. The school district and the city of North Little Rock have been recognized publicly for the partnership they have. In the school Resource Officer program, North Little Rock police officers are on campus in secondary schools everyday to ensure safety to students.
